Tankard time

OK, so they’re not really tankards here, but Basil T’s in Toms River does a commendable job with its mug club dinner, that occasion when you can renew your membership for the year or sign up to become a member. This year's is set for 6:30 on Friday evening (find details here; look under menus on the left column; the dinner link is at the bottom).

(FYI: If you actually are looking for tankards, need the feel of pewter in your hands, The Ship Inn in Milford uses them in its club.)

If you’re a beer fan in the Toms River area, then you probably already keep a seat at Basil’s warm and a pint of Dave Hoffmann’s pub-brewed beer in front of you. (Dave, as many folks know, is also the owner of Climax Brewing in Roselle Park; being the brewer at Basil’s affords him a beer alter-ego.) But if you’re a beer trekker and the brewpub is a travel destination, then it helps to know this event is one of two with beer as the centerpiece that Basil’s pulls out the all the stops for. The other is their Oktoberfest, and both are worth putting on your calendar.

Cheers. See you there.

Hey there, Basil T's in Red Bank here. Saw your post on Basil T's in Toms River, and that you enjoyed the beer. If you like the beer there, come up to Red Bank and try some of our famous micro brews or grab a growler (2 pints) and take it home for later.

Cheers!

Original Basil's, as they denote themselves, has 2 liter growlers, which we took home filled with RyePA (see the Beer's We're Currently Drinking on the right column, and the description).

Invariably, when you have two brewpubs sharing a common name, distinguishing them can get confusing. However, Basil's in Red Bank uses Original Basil's a lot as their name. So that's what we call them, and simply Basil's for the Toms River location, which has different owners.

We are not affiliated with the "Original" Basil T's in Red bank. When stating Basil T's in Red Bank, use "Original", be consistent with advertisement.. its confusing to costumers.

Here's my problem with Basil T's TR that I've noticed over the past few years: Dave does a very good job with the beers yet their flavor more often than not is tainted by some "off" characteristic that I can't put my finger on the source of, but think it might come from improperly cleaned glassware.

I can't describe the flavor itself but it certainly ruins the beer experience when it does pop up. The only thing I can think of is some sort of soap or cleaning solution residue left on the glassware.

Whatever it is, it makes me visit the location far less than I would like to, as the beers can be quite nice, but it's too hit or miss as to if they'll be presented properly or not.
